Holistic Therapies

Holistic therapies have been shown to reduce stress and increase a sense of well-being. By helping us relax, they encourage self-healing and boost our ability to cope with stress.

The therapies below complement conventional medicine. They work very effectively alongside it and are increasingly used in hospitals, hospices, GP surgeries and nursing homes. Your GP and any other healthcare professional should be kept informed of any complementary treatments you receive.

Where possible, we offer special rates for Carers and those on benefits. We accept referrals from professionals in GP practices, Sunderland Carers Centre, MIND in Sunderland and Washington, IAPT (Sunderland Psychological Wellbeing Service) and other agencies.

Our team of experienced, caring and highly qualified therapists and tutors are registered with the relevant professional body and are
DBS-checked.

Some concessions may be available to you if you are an unpaid Carer – please ask when booking

Available Treatments

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is a gentle and calming treatment which aims to improve general health and emotional well-being and to restore balance to the body. It uses a blend of relaxing or uplifting fragrances, chosen especially for each client.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage aids sports injury, tension and tightness in the muscles. It can help to release problem and stressed areas and speed up recovery time and is usually specific to a problem area. The treatment is tailored to individual need and may incorporate stretching and deep tissue techniques. It may also help chronic injury and long-term pain conditions.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is both relaxing and stimulating. The treatment concentrates on the scalp, face, neck, shoulders, upper back and upper arms, with the client sitting on a chair. It can include aromatherapy oils, but this is optional.

Reflexology

This relaxing holistic therapy concentrates on the feet. Using specialised massage techniques, reflexologists work on the reflexes in the feet to aid relaxation and relieve stress. This helps to correct imbalances in the body and release any blocked energy

Reiki / Healing

Reiki is a gentle, soothing and refreshing experience. Its healing energy works at every level, not just the physical. It helps the individual’s self-healing ability and sense of well-being. Treatment involves the practitioner placing their hands gently on or over the body whilst the client lays on a couch or sits on a chair. (‘Reiki’ means ‘universal energy’ and is pronounced ‘Ray key’.)

Healing is gentle, safe, relaxing. It brings healing energy to the individual, helping to restore the balance of energies within the body and encourage peace of mind. Usually the healer will gently place their hands on you; but if you prefer, it can also be given without you being touched.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a natural healing method and comes from the same traditional oriental principles as acupuncture. But there are no needles and you do not take off any clothes. Practitioners use their palm or thumbs to apply a gentle but effective pressure to various points on the body. Treatment is given on a futon on the floor, or on a treatment table, or sometimes with the client sitting on a chair. This relaxing yet stimulating healing helps to restore the balance of energies in your body, mind and spirit. (‘Shiatsu’ means finger pressure, a gentle, healing touch. It is pronounced ‘She at Sue’.)
